I´m going to write things too.
CC has said enough, probably, but I say MORE. MORE FROM ME.
Last night, I slept on a lumpy matress. There are lots of stray dogs around. Right now, I´m having a local Ecuadorian beer at an internet cafe. CC & I both ordered one to try and they brought it right to our computer consoles! Don´t they know the danger of keeping food and drinks by a computer! Have they not libraries in Ecuador where they could learn facts like this on laminated pages with Clip Art graphics placed conveniently at each computer! THIEVES ARE STEALING!
CC also mentioned that we walked by a parade. An elaborate parade with Christmas (Christmas?) music, an assortment of non-related costumes and several Baby Jesuses. Jesi. But what CC didn´t mention was that we drove by this parade first and when we asked the cabbie what it was for, his reply was that "no tienen nada que hacer." They have nothing to do.
Here´s something I liked. The cabbie from last night--the one that ripped us off--drove us around the town for a while (for free? Oh, for five dollars? Oh, you want ten dollars because you can get it? Oh, we´re white) and made sure to tell us valuable information, LIKE:
1) The price of beer! 80 CENTS!
2) The price of a local fruit that acts as an aphrodisiac! TWO DOLLARS! Mind you, that´s for--I swear he said this--ten hour erection.
3) The price of a prostitute! 120 DOLLARS! That´s too much? Well, it´s for FOUR HOURS.
Better stock up on fruit.
Malaria, pollution, foreign language, pickpockets, axe murderers, torrential sleet/rain/sun, prostitutes, rainforest, ruins, volcanoes, literally crazy people... CAN WE SURVIVE?

For your ecuamation:
1. All cabs have meters, in Quito. Elsewhere the minimum is normally $1, such as a ride around Esmeraldas. $10 is an hourly rate, so unless you were in the cab for over an hour, $10, was too much.
2. Prostitutes in Quito cost maybe $20 and up, for about an hour. $120, must be a really nice girl, but seeing as you guys are gringos, just meet a girl at a bar, that is closer to free and lasts all night. Remember.
3. "Night Clubs" = "Whore House" In Esmeraldas you will see these places, they have no windows and look sketchy. Girls are rumored to cost $6. I have never been to one, wouldn't recommend it.
4. What is the name of your hostal?
5. Don't spill the beer on the computer and use big bills when you can, don't give up your change, make them give it to you, because, you will need it later.
